The harsh environment has squeezed the living space of LTE baseband chip manufacturers

Chip manufacturers including ST-Ericsson, Renesas Mobile, NVidia, Marvell and other chip manufacturers started developing LTE baseband chips as early as a year ago, but so far few companies have demonstrated actual results; They all claim to have modem chips, but despite that, no one has got a design case and nothing is seen at this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES)... How could this be?

 

Of course, we can blame the LTE market that is almost non-existent at present, except for the United States (editor's note: there should also be Japan and South Korea), the LTE network deployment speed in other regions is slow, if manufacturers want to rush the shipment of modem chips, they should not lock in the LTE market; But in the 3G market, it is Qualcomm, MediaTek, Spreadtrum, Broadcom, Intel... and other big factories.

 

Or you can blame Samsung vs. Apple; These two companies have swept the high-end smartphone market, but Samsung has its own LTE baseband chips, and Apple uses Qualcomm's chips, and other chip suppliers have little room to live. But the real reason is actually the essence of baseband chips.
