The series provides an affordable and accurate solution for AC or DC current sensing. Typical applications include motor control, load detection and management, power supply and DC-to-DC converter control, inverter control, and overcurrent fault detection.
The equipment consists of a low-offset precision linear Hall circuit with a copper current path close to the surface of the wafer. The current flowing through this current path creates a magnetic field centered on a low hysteresis core, which is converted by the Hall IC into a voltage output of equal proportion. By bringing the magnetic signal as close to the Hall sensor as possible, the device accuracy is optimized. The accurate, proportional output voltage is provided by a stabilized chopper-type low-bias BiCMOS Hall IC that is shipped with precision programming. The same proportional digital temperature compensation technology dramatically improves IC accuracy and temperature stability without compromising the high-bandwidth operation of the analog output.
Allegro's proprietary integrated shielding technology provides high tolerance to current conductor dV/dt signals and stray electric fields, ensuring low output voltage ripple and low bias drift in high-side, high-voltage applications.
The output of the device has a positive slope (>VCC/2 for bidirectional devices) as the current rises through the main copper conduction path (from terminal 4 to terminal 5) that is used as the current sensing path. The internal resistance of this current flow circuit is typically 100 μΩ, which has a low power loss.
The thickness of the copper wire allows the device to operate under high overcurrent conditions. The current path is galvanically isolated from the terminal end and the signal leads (pins 1 through 3). This allows the ACS770 sensor IC family to be used in applications where electrical isolation is required without the use of photoisolators or other expensive insulation technologies.
The device is fully calibrated prior to shipment. The ACS770 series is lead-free. All leads are plated with 100% matte tin, and there is no lead present in the package. The large size pin frame is made of oxygen-free copper.
