The AD9234 is a dual-channel, 12-bit, 1 GSPS/500 MSPS ADC. The device has built-in on-chip buffers and sample hold circuitry designed for low power consumption, small size, and ease of use. This product is used to sample wide-bandwidth analog signals. The AD9234 is optimized for wide input bandwidth, high sample rate, excellent linearity, and low power consumption in a small package.
This dual-channel ADC core adopts a multi-level, differential pipeline architecture and integrates output error correction logic. Each ADC has a wide bandwidth buffered input that supports a variety of user-selectable input ranges. Integrated voltage reference simplifies design. The data outputs of each ADC are internally connected to an optional 2-way clock. The AD9234 has a variety of built-in features that simplify the Automatic Gain Control (AGC) function in the communications receiver.
Using the ADC's fast detection output bit, the programmable threshold detector monitors the input signal power. If the input signal level exceeds the programmable threshold, the quick detection indicator becomes high. Because the threshold indicator has a very low latency, users can quickly adjust down the system gain to avoid over-range at the ADC input. In addition to fast detection outputs, the AD9234 also has signal monitoring capabilities. The signal monitoring module provides additional information about the ADC to digitally process the signal.
The high-speed serial outputs of JESD204B subclass 1 can be configured in single, dual, or quad channels, depending on the acceptable channel rate of the receiving logic and the sample rate of the ADC. Multi-device synchronization support is available via SYSREF± and SYNCINB ± input pins.
The AD9234 has flexible power-down options that significantly reduce power consumption when needed. These features are programmable via a 1.8 V to 3.3 V three-wire SPI.
The AD9234 is available in a 64-pin lead-free LFCSP package and is rated for an industrial temperature range of −40 °C to +85 °C. The product is protected by a U.S. patent.
