iCoupler is a chip-scale transformer technology that outperforms optocouplers in terms of functionality, performance, size, and power consumption. Having a bidirectional I2C channel eliminates the need to separate the I2C signal into separate transmit and receive signals for use by independent optocouplers.

Based on Analog Devices' isoPower® technology, the on-chip isolated DC-DC converter provides isolated regulation voltages from 3.15 V to 5.25 V with a maximum output of 150 mW.

With ADM3260, iCoupler and isoPower channels and I2C transceivers can be integrated with semiconductor circuits to enable fully isolated I2C interfaces and power converters in a small package. ADM3260 is available in a 20-pin SSOP package and has an operating temperature range of -40 °C to +105 °C.

isoPower utilizes high-frequency switching elements to transmit power through its transformers. Particular care should be taken when designing printed circuit board (PCB) layouts and must comply with relevant radiation standards. For board layout suggestions, refer to Application Note AN-0971.
