The DAC8420 is a quad, 12-bit voltage output DAC with a serial digital interface in a 16-pin package. This single-chip device is manufactured using BiCMOS technology and has an unusually high circuit density and low power consumption. Easy-to-use serial digital inputs and fully buffered analog voltage outputs require no external components to achieve rated performance.
With minimal additional circuitry, a 3-wire serial digital input can be easily interfaced with a microprocessor operating at 10 MHz. The address of each DAC is individually determined by a 16-bit serial word consisting of a 12-bit data word and an address header. User-programmable reset control CLRAll four DACs can be forced to output a zero-scale or midscale to asynchronously override the current DAC register value. The output voltage range is determined by the user by setting the inputs VREFHI and VREFLO to achieve positive/negative unipolar or bipolar signal swings over the supply voltage range, providing great design flexibility.
Available in 16-pin PDIP, SOIC, and CERDIP packages, the DAC8420 is specified for a +5 V to ±15 V supply range and a reference voltage range of +2.5 V to ±10 V. When operating from a ±15 V supply, the power consumption is less than 255 mW maximum; When operating from a +5 V supply, it consumes only 35 mW maximum.
