The LMS202E features RS-232 communication with two transmitters and two receivers. It has a DC-DC converter that allows the device to operate with only a single +5 V power supply. The on-chip DC-DC converter generates the internal supply from four external 0.1μF capacitors and is dual RS-232 output level compatible.
The device complies with EIA/TIA-232E and CCITT V.28 specifications to 230kbits/sec. The LMS202E is available in a 16-pin narrow and wide SOIC package.
The transmitter output and receiver input have ± 15kV electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection. The LMS202E survives an ESD event of ± 15kV when subjected to input and output pins according to the mannequin or IEC 1000-4-2 (EN61000-4-2), air gap specification RS-232. It survives at a discharge of ± 8kV and is subject to IEC 1000-4-2 (EN61000-4-2), contact specification. This device is designed for use in harsh environments where the Electronic Public Service Program is a concern.
