ADCs for 3.5 and 4.5-bit, single-chip LCD drivers

description

MAX1491/MAX1493/MAX1495 low-power, 3.5- and 4.5-bit, integrated liquid crystal display (LCD) drivers for analog-to-digital converter (ADC) operation from a single 2.7V to 5.25V supply. They include in-house references, high-precision on-chip oscillators, and triplexed LCD drivers. The internal charge pump generates a negative power supply, which is required by an integrated input buffer for single-supply operation. The ADC is configured to ± 2V or ±200mV input range and output its conversion results to an LCD. MAX1491 is a 3.5-bit (±1999 count) device and MAX1493/MAX1495 is a 4.5-bit (±19,999 count) device.

In MAX1491/MAX1493/MAX1495, there is no need for external high-precision integrated or auto-zeroing capacitors, crystal oscillators, charge pumps, or other circuitry required for dual-slope ADCs (commonly used in panel instrumentation circuits). The devices also feature on-chip buffers, and the differential signal and reference inputs allow for direct interfacing with high-impedance sources. Additionally, the MAX1491/MAX1493/MAX1495 uses continuous internal offset calibration and provides > 100 dB 50Hz and 60Hz supply noise rejection. MAX1493/MAX1495 perform enhanced electrical offset calibration. MAX1495 also perform calibration needs enhancement. Other features include data hold, peak hold, and a user-programmable low battery monitor.

MAX1493/MAX1495 in a 32-pin 7mm x 7mm TQFP package, 28-pin SSOP and 28-pin DIP package, MAX1491. All devices in this family operate over the 0°C to +70°C commercial temperature range.
