AD2S90AP low cost, complete 12-bit resolver-to-digital converter
The AD2S90 is a complete 12-bit resolution resolver-to-digital converter that requires no external components to operate.
The converter's SIN, COS, and REF inputs allow the input of 2 V rms ± 10% signals at frequencies in the 3 kHz to 20 kHz range. The Type II servo loop is used to track the input signal and convert the information at the SIN and COS inputs into a digital quantity corresponding to the input angle. The bandwidth of the converter is internally set to 1 kHz. The maximum tracking rate at 12-bit resolution is 375 rps.
Angular position output information is provided in two forms: absolute serial binary and incremental A quad B.
The absolute serial binary output is 12-bit (1/4096). When chip select CS is logic high, the data output pin is high-impedance, allowing multiple converters to be connected to the same bus. The absolute angle information in serial, pure binary form is first accessed by CS and then an external clock (SCLK) with a maximum rate of 2 MHz is applied.
The encoder emulates outputs A, B, and NM to continuously produce the equivalent of a 1024-wire encoder.
When decoded, this equates to 12-bit resolution. The three common signpost pulse widths are selected via a single pin (NMC).
The analog speed output signal provides a representation of the speed at which the rotating axis is turned clockwise or counterclockwise.
The AD2S90 operates from a ±5 V ± 5% dc supply and uses Analog Devices, Inc. linearly compatible CMOS process (LC).2MOS) manufacturing. LC2MOS is a hybrid technology process that combines precision bipolar circuitry with low-power CMOS logic.
