The demodulation accuracy is excellent, with amplitude and phase balance of approximately 0.07 dB and 0.2°, respectively. The demodulated in-phase (I) and quadrature (Q) differential outputs are fully buffered to provide approximately 7 dB of voltage conversion gain. The buffered baseband output drives a 2 V p-p differential signal to a load of 200 Ω.
The fully balanced design greatly reduces the effects of second-order distortion. Leakage from LO port to RF port is less than −50 dBm. The typical value of the differential DC offset voltage at the I and Q outputs is less than 20 mV. These factors give the device excellent IIP2 characteristics above 65 dBm.
ADL5380 supply current can be adjusted by placing an external resistor between the ADJ pin and the positive supply VS (to increase supply current and improve IIP3) or ground (to reduce supply current at the expense of IIP3 performance) using a single 4.75 V to 5.25 V supply.
ADL5380 are manufactured using Analog Devices' advanced silicon-germanium bipolar process and are available in a 24-pin, exposed pad LFCSP package.
