The ADL5380 is a wideband quadrature
I/Q demodulatorcovering the RF/IF input frequency range from 400 MHz to 6 GHz. At 900 MHz, its noise figure (NF) is 10.9 dB, IP1dB is 11.6 dBm, and the third-order intercept point (IIP3) is 29.7 dBm. Excellent dynamic range for demanding infrastructure direct conversion applications. The differential RF input provides a well-functioning 50 Ω wideband input impedance and is best driven by a 1:1 balun for optimal performance.
The demodulation accuracy is excellent, with amplitude balance and phase balance of approximately 0.07 dB and 0.2°, respectively. The in-phase (I) and quadrature (Q) differential outputs are fully buffered to provide approximately 7 dB of voltage conversion gain. The buffered baseband output drives a 2 V p-p differential signal into a 200 Ω load.
A fully balanced design greatly reduces the effects of second-order distortion. The leakage from the LO port to the RF port is less than −50 dBm. The differential dc offset voltage at the I and Q outputs is typically less than 20 mV. These factors give the device excellent IIP2 characteristics above 65 dBm.
The ADL5380 operates from a single 4.75 V to 5.25 V supply, and the supply current can be adjusted by placing an external resistor between the ADJ pin and the positive supply VS (to increase supply current and improve IIP3) or ground (to reduce supply current at the expense of IIP3 performance).
The ADL5380 is fabricated using Analog Devices' advanced silicon-germanium bipolar process and is available in a 24-lead, exposed pad LFCSP package.
