ADL5387 is a wideband quadrature I/Q demodulator that covers the RF/IF input frequency range from 30 MHz to 2 GHz. At 450 MHz, it has a noise figure (NF) of 13.2 dB, an IP1dB of 12.7 dBm, and a third-order intermodulation cut-off point (IIP3) of 32 dBm; Excellent dynamic range for demanding infrastructure direct conversion applications. The differential RF/IF inputs provide good 50 Ω wideband input impedance, and for best performance, a 1:1 balun drive should be used.
The local oscillator (LO) orthogonal generation uses a two-way method to enable ultra-wideband operation. Amplitude and phase balance of about 0.05 dB and 0.4 dB, respectively, achieve excellent demodulation accuracy over a wide LO level range. The demodulated in-phase (I) and quadrature (Q) differential outputs are fully buffered to provide more than 4 dB of voltage conversion gain. The buffered baseband output drives a 2 V p-p differential signal to a load of 200 Ω.
The fully balanced design greatly reduces the effects of second-order distortion. Leakage from the LO port to the RF port is less than −70 dBc. The differential DC offset voltage at the I and Q outputs is less than 10 mV. These factors give the device excellent IIP2 characteristics above 60 dBm.
ADL5387 operates from a single 4.75 V to 5.25 V supply and regulates the supply current using an external resistor connected from the BIAS pin to the ground.
ADL5387 manufactured using Analog Devices' advanced silicon-germanium bipolar process and is available in a 24-pin, exposed pad LFCSP package.
