ADE7953 single-phase multifunction metering IC with neutral current measurement
The ADE7953 is a high precision energy metering IC primarily used in single-phase applications. It measures line voltages and currents and calculates active, reactive, apparent power, and instantaneous rms voltages and currents.
The device contains three sigma-delta ADCs and a precision energy metering core. The third input channel can measure neutral current simultaneously, supporting steal detection and neutral current billing. Additional channels integrate a complete signal path, allowing a variety of measurements to be performed. Each input channel supports independent and flexible gain stages, making the device suitable for use with a variety of current sensors, such as current transformers (CTs) and low-value shunt resistors. Two on-chip integrators facilitate the use of Rogowski coil sensors.
The ADE7953 can access on-chip metering registers through a variety of communication interfaces, including SPI, I2C, and UART. Two configurable low jitter pulse output pins provide outputs proportional to active, reactive, or apparent power and rms values for current and voltage. Comprehensive power quality information such as overcurrent, overvoltage, peak, and sag detection is available through the external IRQ pin. The device includes separate active, reactive, and apparent no-load detection to prevent meter "creepage." Dedicated reverse power supply (REVP), zero-crossing voltage (ZX), and zero-crossing current (ZX-I) pins are also provided. The ADE7953 energy metering IC operates from a 3.3V supply and is available in a 28-lead LFCSP package.
