A4989 isDual full-bridge gate driverswith an integrated microstepping converter for driving a wide range of high-power industrial bipolar two-phase stepper motors (typically 30 to 500 watts). Motor power is provided by an external N-channel power MOSFET with a supply voltage of 12 to 50 volts.
The device includes two sinusoidal DACs that generate reference voltages for two independent fixed-downtime pulse-width modulated (PWM) current controllers. Current regulation is also provided for the full bridge of an external power MOSFET.
The motor stepping is controlled by a two-wire stepping and direction interface, providing complete microstep control in complete, 1/2, 1/4, and 1/16 step decomposition. Fixed downtime regulators can be operated in slow, mixed, or fast decay modes to reduce audible motor noise, increase step accuracy, and reduce power consumption.
The converter is key to the ease of implementation of this integrated circuit (IC). Simply entering a pulse into the "step" input drives the motor to produce a step (full, 1/2, 1/4, or 1/16 step, depending on the microstep selection input. )。 There are no phase order tables, high-frequency control lines, or complex interfaces in this program. This reduces the need for complex microcontrollers.
The bootstrap capacitors provide the supply voltage required for the high-side N-channel MOSFETs described above. Synchronous rectification is improved by applying synchronous rectification, and integrated crossover control and programmable inductive time save power FETs from breakdown.
In addition, crossover current control and internal circuit protection prevent thermal shutdown and undervoltage protection caused by hysteresis. No special power-on sequencing is required.
The product is available in a 38-pin TSSOP (Package LD) package. The package is lead (Pb) free and features 100% matte tin leadframe plating.
