This series of voltage regulators LM2674 is a monolithic integrated circuit manufactured by the LMDMOS process. These regulators provide all buck-active (buck-boost) switching regulators that drive 500 mA loads with excellent line and load regulation currents. These devices are available in fixed output voltages of 3.3V and 5.0V, 12V, and adjustable output versions.
Requiring a minimum number of external components, these regulators are simple and easy to use, including patented internal frequency compensation (patent numbers 5382918 and 5514947) and fixed frequency oscillators.
The LM2674 series operates at a switching frequency of 260 kHz, thus making it smaller than the filtering element required for lower frequency switching regulators. Due to its extremely high efficiency ("90%), copper wires on printed circuit boards are the only heat dissipation needs.
A family that uses standard inductors with the LM2674 can be from several different manufacturers. This feature greatly simplifies the use of these advanced integrated circuit design supplies for switching power supplies. In addition, the datasheet includes a guide to selecting diodes and design operating in switch-mode power supply capacitors.
Other features include ± guaranteed tolerance of 1.5% and ± 10% oscillator frequency under specified output voltage and input voltage of the output load. External shutdown is included with a typical standby current of 50μA. Includes output switching current limiting and adequate protection for thermal shutdown in fault conditions.
In order to simplify the design process of the LM2674 step-down regulator, there is computer design software, and the LM267X is simplified (version 6.0).
