This series of voltage regulators, LM2676, is a monolithic load capability that provides a step-down active-action (buck) switching regulator to drive up to 3A with excellent voltage and load regulation characteristics. High efficiency ("90%) is achieved through the use of low-resistance DMOS power switches. The series includes fixed output voltages in 3.3V, 5V and 12V and adjustable output versions.
The simple switch concept provides a complete design that uses minimal external components. The high fixed frequency oscillator (260KHz) allows the use of smaller components. A family of standard inductors for use with the LM2676 can be selected from several manufacturers, greatly simplifying the design process.
The LM2676 series also features built-in thermal shutdown, current limit and on/off control at input power that can be adjusted to a low quiescent current of 50μA standby state. The output voltage is guaranteed to be ± 2% error. The clock frequency is controlled to a tolerance of ± 11%.
