The LM50 is a precision integrated circuit temperature sensor that senses the use of a single positive power supply in the temperature range of -40°C to +125°C. The output voltage of the LM50 is directly proportional to the temperature in Celsius (°C) (+10 mV/°C) and has a DC offset of 500 mV. The offset allows reads without the need for negative power supply negative temperatures. The LM50 has an ideal output voltage range from +100 mV to 1.75 for -40°C to +125°C temperature range V. The LM50 does not require any external calibration or fine-tuning to provide an accuracy of ± 3°C at ambient ± 4°C and over the entire -40°C to +125°C temperature range. Trim and calibrate the LM50 at the wafer level to ensure low cost and high accuracy. The LM50's linear output, +500 mV offset, and factory-calibrated simplified circuitry require negative temperature requirements for reading in a single-supply environment. Since the quiescent current of the LM50 is less than 130μA, self-heating is limited at a very low 0.2°C, stationary air.
