The A4960 is a three-phase sensorless brushless DC (BLDC) that can be used with external N-channel power MOSFETsMotor controller, which is specifically targeted at automotive applications.
The motor is driven by blocking commutation (trapezoidal commutation), which does not require a separate position sensor and can be determined by monitoring the motor back EMF. The programmable motor start design allows the A4960 to be regulated for a large number of motor and load combinations.
An external bootstrap capacitor is used to provide the battery supply voltage described above required for the N-channel MOSFET. The automatic internal bootstrap load management design ensures that the bootstrap capacitor always provides sufficient power for the safe operation of the power MOSFETs. Integrated crossover control and adjustable inductive time save power MOSFETs from breakdown.
Integrated diagnostics indicate undervoltage, overtemperature, and power bridge faults and can be configured to protect the power MOSFETs in most short-circuit conditions. Detailed diagnostics are available in the form of serial data words.
The A4960 is available in a 32-pin LQFP package (suffix JP) with exposed spacers for enhanced cooling. The packages are lead (Pb) free and feature 100% matte tin plating (suffix –T).
