illustrate
The LM120 series three-terminal negative regulators feature -5V, -12V fixed output voltages and -15V, up to 1.5A load current capability. When other voltages are required, the LM137 and LM137HV series offer output voltages ranging from -1.2V to -47V.
The LM120 only requires an external component to compensate capacitors at the output, making them easy to apply. In the worst case of output voltage deviation due to any combination of line, load and temperature changes, the operation of the system is guaranteed to be satisfactory.
Extraordinary efforts have been made to make the LM120 series immune to overload conditions. The regulator's current limit is temperature-independent, combined with overtemperature protection. Internal current limit protection against transient faults and thermal shutdown prevents overloading over extended periods of time exceeding the safe limit junction temperature.
Although primarily for fixed output voltage applications, the LM120 series can be programmed as a simple resistor divider for higher output voltages. Low quiescent leakage current devices to enable the use of this technology with good regulation.
