illustrate
The LM120 series three-terminal negative regulators have a fixed output voltage of -5V, -12V and -15V, up to 1.5A load current capability. When other voltages are required, the LM137 and LM137HV series offer output voltages ranging from -1.2V to -47V.
The LM120 only requires an external component to compensate for the capacitance at the output, making them easy to apply. In the worst case of output voltage deviation due to any combination of line, load and temperature variations, the operation of the system is guaranteed to be satisfactory.
Extraordinary efforts have been made to make the LM120 series immune to overload conditions. The current limitation of regulators is not related to temperature, but combined with overheating protection. Internal current limits against transient faults while overheating shutdown protection prevents overloading over long periods of time exceeding the safe limit junction temperature.
Although primarily intended for fixed output voltage applications, the LM120 series can be programmed as a simple resistor divider for higher output voltages. Devices with low static leakage current to make this technology use with good regulation.
