illustrate
The LM3658 is a single-chip charger IC designed for handheld applications. It can safely charge and maintain a single cell operation from an AC adapter or USB power polymer battery. The selection of the USB/AC source for the input power is automatic. With both power supplies, AC power supplies currently have priority. The charge current is programmed by an external resistor by the AC wall allowing operation from a 50 mA to 1000 mA charging current adapter. When the battery is charged using USB power, the charging current of 100 mA or 500 mA is pin-selectable. The termination voltage is controlled at 4.2V ± 0.35%.
The LM3658 requires few external components and integrates internal power FETs, reverse current protection, and current sensing. The internal power FET is temperature regulated to achieve the most efficient charging speed given the ambient temperature.
The LM3658 operates in five modes: prequalification mode, constant current mode, constant voltage mode, top mode and maintenance mode. In addition, the charger IC operates as an "LDO mode" when the AC adapter is connected and no battery is present with a linear regulator. Get optimal battery management through thermal regulation, battery temperature measurement and multiple safety timers. The LM3658 provides two LED status indications or connected GPIO open-drain outputs.
