Input multiplexers can be configured to use single-ended or differential inputs (or combinations). On-chip sample-and-hold is included in all single-ended input channels. When the LTC1293/4/6 is idle, it can be powered down in low power applications. The LTC1296 includes a signal conditioning circuit system shutdown pin that can be used to reduce external circuit power before input multiplexing.

The serial I/O design, which eliminates the need for external hardware for the serial ports of the most microprocessors and parallel I/O ports for all MPUs, allows up to 8 data to be sent to some three-wire channel communication.
