illustrate
DS36276 use of a bidirectional differential bus on a fail-safe multipoint transceiver design. It is compatible with existing TIA/EIA-485 transceivers, however, it provides support for additional features that are not standard transceivers.
The fail-safe feature guarantees that the receiver outputs to a known state when the interface is in the following conditions: floating line, idle line (inactive driver), and line fault conditions (open or short). The receiver output is in high condition with the following conditions: open input, end input (50 ohms), and short input.
FailSafe is a desirable feature when used in transceivers, such as UART asynchronous controllers.
