The LTC ® 4060 is a complete NiMH or NiCd battery fast charging system. Only a small number of external components are required to design a stand-alone linear charging system.

The external PNP transistor provides the charging current and is a user-programmable resistor. A small external capacitor sets the maximum charging time. is necessary without the need for external current-sense resistors and isolation diodes.

The integrated circuit automatically senses the DC input power and battery insertion or removal. Originally controlled at C/5 for re-discharge of the battery, fast charging before application. Using the -ΔV detection method, fast charge termination. The backup termination is provided by a programmable timer and battery overvoltage detector. An optional external NTC thermistor is available for temperature-based charging qualifications. An optional programmable charging function that automatically charges and then discharges the battery.
