description
The LTC®4071 enables simple charging of lithium-ion/lithium-polymer batteries from very low-current, intermittent, or continuously charging supplies. The device has a low-battery lockout disconnect capability that is close to zero current, preventing deep discharge and potentially irreparable damage to even very low-capacity batteries. Operating currents of 550nA to 50mA enable charging from previously unusable power sources. With its low operating current, LTC4071 is well suited for charging low-capacity lithium-ion or thin-film batteries in energy harvesting applications. LTC4071's unique architecture results in an extremely simple battery charger solution; Only one external resistor is required.
LTC4071 provides a pin-selectable float voltage with an accuracy of ±1%. By automatically reducing the battery float voltage when the NTC thermistor temperature is above 40°C, the device's integrated battery thermal checker extends battery life and improves reliability. In addition, the LTC4071 offers two pin-selectable low battery disconnect levels and a high battery state output.
The device is available in two thermally enhanced packages, a compact and low profile (only 0.75mm height) 8-pin (2mm x 3mm) DFN package, and an 8-pin MSOP package.
