description
LTC®The 6803 is a second-generation complete battery monitoring IC that includes a 12-bit ADC, a precision voltage reference, a high voltage input multiplexer, and a serial interface. Each LTC6803 is capable of measuring voltages from up to 12 series batteries or supercapacitors. Multiple LTC6803-1/LTC6803-3 devices can be connected in series (without optocouplers or optoisolators) using a unique level-shifting serial interface to monitor the voltage of each cell in a long string of series connected cells. Each battery input has an associated MOSFET power switch that discharges overcharged batteries. The LTC6803-1 internally connects the bottom end of the battery pack to V―Connected. The device is pin compatible with the LTC6802-1, providing a drop-in upgrade. The LTC6803-3 connects the bottom end of the battery pack to V―Separated, thus improving the measurement accuracy of the first cell (cell 1).
The LTC6803 provides a standby mode to reduce supply current to 12μA. In addition, the LTC6803 can be powered from an isolated supply, providing a way to reduce the current drawn by the battery pack to zero.
For applications requiring individually addressable serial communication, refer to the LTC6803-2/LTC6803-4.
