description
The LTC®6803 is a second-generation complete battery monitoring IC that includes a 12-bit ADC, an accurate voltage reference, a high-voltage input multiplexer, and a serial interface. Each LTC6803 is capable of measuring voltages from up to 12 series-connected batteries or supercapacitors. By using a unique level-shifted serial interface, multiple LTC6803-1 / LTC6803-3 devices can be connected in series (without the use of optocouplers or optoisors) to monitor the voltage of each cell in a long series of series. Each battery input has an associated MOSFET power switch for discharging overcharged batteries. LTC6803-1 internally connects the bottom end of the battery pack to the V―. The device is pin-to-pin compatible with LTC6802-1, providing a drop-in upgrade option. LTC6803-3 separates the bottom end of the battery pack from V-, thus improving the measurement accuracy of the first cell (cell 1).
LTC6803 provides a standby mode for reducing the supply current to 12μA. In addition, the LTC6803 can be powered from an isolated power supply, providing a way to reduce the current absorbed by the battery pack to zero.
For applications that require individually addressable serial communication, refer to LTC6803-2 / LTC6803-4.
